WASHINGTON, DC: A brief on-field interaction between Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and US security during the FIFA World Cup final has gone viral, triggering widespread online speculation over what unfolded during the post-match medal ceremony.

Videos circulating on social media appear to show Sheinbaum approaching the presentation area at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey before being momentarily stopped or redirected by security personnel. The Mexican president is then seen gesturing briefly before walking away toward the stage where world leaders and FIFA officials were gathered.

While the exact nature of the exchange remains unclear, the footage has prompted debate online, with no official explanation issued by either the White House or the Mexican government.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, representing the third World Cup co-host nation, also attended the final, while Spain's King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia were among the international dignitaries present to support the Spanish team.

The event marked one of the rare occasions Sheinbaum and Trump were seen together publicly after months of disagreements over trade and border security policies.

No clarification as video fuels speculation

Neither US nor Mexican officials have commented on the apparent security interaction, leaving the reason behind the brief exchange open to interpretation. There has been no indication that the incident disrupted the ceremony or involved any diplomatic disagreement.

The viral clip emerged alongside several other widely discussed moments from the World Cup final, including Trump's appearance on the field during Spain's trophy celebrations and audible boos from sections of the crowd as he entered the stadium for the medal presentation.
