But the only thing you really have to shell out is $6 for parking. Skip the roller coasters, water slides and skiing, and you can have a fun day without spending much.

American Dream calls its indoor Garden Court a “unique botanical paradise.” With its greenery, fountain and open space, the atrium can be a place to wander, sit and take pictures without spending a dime. Decorations change with the holidays and seasons.
Visit Toys 'R' Us
The Toys “R” Us in this mall is the company’s flagship store. It’s 20,000 square feet and includes a two-story slide and Geoffrey’s Cafe. Families can pose with displays and check out the slide and kids can get hands-on time with the latest toys in its play areas. Granted, it will be hard to leave the giant toy store without buying something.
A mega candy store
IT’SUGAR is another store designed to feel like an attraction. Its three floors contain oversized displays and unusual sights like the world’s largest candy necklace. It’s also home to the Oreo Cafe, where Oreo lovers will find a large selection of cookies and merch, like Oreo slippers.
Look for free events
American Dream regularly uses its open areas for watch parties, performances, giveaways and promotional events. During the World Cup, for example, the mall scheduled free watch parties with games and giveaways. Check American Dream’s online calendar before heading out.
Free tech classes: The Apple store offers free workshops where you can improve your photography or learn how to make music and movies. Workshops often require registration.
Food as the main expense
Planning the day around a meal can be cheaper than paying for one of the major attractions. This could be the smart play if you’re going to spend some money. American Dream lists more than 65 places to eat.
The mall promises “authentic dishes from Peruvian delights and American favorites to soul-soothing Southern food, exotic Asian flavors, and rich Italian classics.” There are also plenty of options where you can grab something quick, which would be cheaper than the restaurants.
One ride, not a pass
Here’s one more tip if you don’t want to skip the rides completely. Nickelodeon Universe sells points passes starting at $7.99. They’ll give you access to a limited number of rides without paying the full admission price. This may be the way to go with younger kids who may be overwhelmed by an entire day in a theme park.
