Wales name 20-player squad for Hockey World Cup

Wales have named their 20-player squad for the 2026 Hockey World Cup.

Wales head coach Danny Newcombe has named a 20-player squad for the Hockey World Cup in the Netherlands and Belgium in August.

Jacob Draper and Fred Newbold have recovered from respective hamstring and ankle injuries to make the squad.

Liam Barker earns a call-up after representing Wales Under-21s.

Wales are in Pool D alongside England, India and Pakistan, with all their pool games taking place at the Wagener Stadium in Amsterdam.

They sealed qualification by beating Poland 2-1 in Santiago, Chile in March.

Wales made their competition debut in India in 2023, where they finished tied for 11th place.

Wales have played warm-up games against England, Australia and Spain in preparation for the World Cup.

They will take on Chile in a warm-up match in Cardiff at the end of July, then face the Chileans in three Test matches in the Welsh capital before heading off to Amsterdam for their second World Cup.

Currently 16th in the world, Wales are the lowest ranked side in the tournament but will be looking to cause upsets as they aim to surpass their 2023 result.

The team have been crowdfunding in an attempt to cover costs such as travel, accommodation and competition expenses.
