Vulcan to the Sky Trust, Doncaster, UK, has outlined a series of developments completed during June as it continues work to support Avro Vulcan XH558, English Electric Canberra WK163, and the charity’s long-term plans for preservation, education, and visitor engagement. One of the main projects highlighted in the Trust’s June update is a redesigned Guardian program, which is expected to launch soon. The new model combines regular donations with the existing Guardian identity and is intended to encourage long-term support for Vulcan XH558 and the Trust’s wider activities. The Trust has also continued work to close its long-standing storage facility in Stratford, where aircraft spares and materials have been housed for more than a decade. The ongoing project involves sorting, identifying, and relocating components needed to support XH558 and WK163 while reducing storage costs and simplifying day-to-day operations.
Education remains another key focus. During June, representatives from the Trust met with Penny and Jason from the Air & Space Institute, part of Lincoln College’s Newark campus, to discuss opportunities for students to become involved in future visitor engagement, engineering, heritage, and educational activities planned at Doncaster. The following week, students from the institute, accompanied by a delegation from Morocco, visited the airport and toured Vulcan XH558. The Trust also continues to develop its Fit to Fly program, an educational initiative designed to introduce young people to aviation, engineering, teamwork, and resilience through the story of XH558 and Britain’s aviation heritage.
Planning has also continued for the first phase of the Trust’s long-term vision to place both XH558 and Canberra WK163 under cover at Doncaster. The proposed temporary protective structure is intended to improve the preservation of both aircraft, provide better conditions for engineering work, and enhance the visitor experience. The Trust said its upcoming Raise the Roof fundraising campaign will be central to delivering that project.
Reflecting on the month’s activities, Vulcan to the Sky Trust Chief Executive Officer Craig Shepherd said much of the work completed during June had taken place behind the scenes but would help position the organization for the future. “June has been a month of practical progress, relationship-building, and quiet but important preparation. Some of the work underway now may not yet be visible from the outside, but it is laying the foundations for a very exciting period ahead.” Shepherd also thanked the Trust’s volunteers, staff, donors, partners, and supporters for their continued contributions as work progresses on the organization’s long-term preservation and education goals.
