(NewsNation) — Surveillance video in a pickpocketing case reveals how quickly thieves can lift valuables from unsuspecting victims.
Police in Loganville, Georgia, released the footage in hopes of identifying the suspect in the robbery, which happened at a Publix grocery store.
The footage shows a man in a baseball hat quickly taking a wallet from a woman’s purse while she is distracted by her shopping.
It’s an example of how quickly bad actors can take advantage of distraction, or even cause it, to pocket someone else’s property.
Earlier in the year, a woman was arrested in California for purposely distracting an older woman and stealing her wallet, possibly working with others to distract and steal.
It’s not just your purse that you need to watch out for.
Elsewhere in Georgia, police warned of so-called “sliders,” thieves who slide into a car while the keys are still in the ignition, often at gas stations.
They strike when people have moved away for a brief moment, putting children or pets at risk if they are still inside the car when it is stolen.
