KILLINGLY - Two people were rescued Tuesday after a car was partially submerged in flood water on Cottage Street amid heavy rain, officials said.
The rescue took place under a railroad bridge between Furnace Street and St. James Row, according to a spokesperson for the Connecticut State Police.
Police said no injuries were reported.
"Drivers should avoid the area of Cottage Street in Killingly due to water levels," police said.
In a Facebook post, the Danielson Fire Department said Cottage Street will remain closed until the water recedes.
The department also shared a photo of the street showing two vehicles partially submerged in about a foot of water.
The rescue effort unfolded as thunderstorms brought heavy rain to much of Connecticut, triggering a flash flood warning in Fairfield County and western New Haven County, and leaving thousands without power across the state.
