Two Lincoln gas stations are raising money for a family of four that was left injured in a pedestrian crash this weekend.
A portion of every pump is going to help the family who is recovering after being struck by a car during Loonfest.
"That’s awful that happened to them," Dani Raval, the organizer of the fundraiser, said.
Raval, who is the owner of Dani’s Express Mart and Why Not Stop, said two of his employees are extended family of the victims. The victims are a 24-year-old woman, 29-year-old man, 5-year-old child, and a 3-month-old infant.
He said they are donating five cents of every gallon of gas purchased to the family.
“When I see that something happened in the community, I am also here to do something," Raval said.
According to Lincoln police, 57-year-old Carl Hartley of Mattawamkeag struck the family. The incident happened at the intersection of Main Street and West Broadway on Saturday. Police said a preliminary investigation found that Hartley’s vehicle went through the intersection, off the road, and onto the sidewalk, striking the family.
Hartley was taken to Penobscot County Jail and faces charges of operating under the influence and drug trafficking.
Jasmine Drew, the mother, has injuries a broken hip, two broken legs, and a possible broken neck, according to a GoFundMe campaign created by her aunt.
She is recovering at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. Officials said the other victims have injuries that are non-life-threatening.
"They'll remember [this] their entire life like, 'Hey, the community stood up for them,'" Raval said.
The fundraiser will last for one month. Raval said he hopes to raise between $12,000 and $15,000.
