President Donald Trump railed against Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA), as well as the dangers of communism — which he accused Ossoff of representing — on Wednesday during a speech meant to promote his Trump Accounts.
“Georgia is a state that believes in common sense, and yet, your terrible senator, Jon Ossoff, he’s terrible,” he said. “And the Democrats, in Congress, are voting with the Communists every single time. They are afraid of the Communists when you look at it. Now, I fought Ossoff before, and we won; we had a great success against this guy. He reminds me of Pinky Herman.”
(Trump appeared to have meant to say PeeWee Herman, which he said later at the event.)
Trump proceeded to insist his administration gave Americans the “greatest tax cut in history of our country twice now, and they want to raise your taxes substantially. I’ve been watching politics, I have been involved in politics on the other side for a long time. I found it interesting, fascinating, and important. But I never see people say… I watch great politicians, ‘We will lower your taxes’. They always say, even if they didn’t mean it, they would say, ‘We will lower your taxes.’ These people say, ‘We’re going to raise your taxes.'”
Democrats have ” voted against no tax on tips. They voted against no tax on overtime. They voted against no tax on social security for the seniors. They voted against voter I.D.,” he continued.
“They voted against lower energy prices, lower car prices, and bigger paychecks for everyone,” the president added. “They voted against every one of these things. Jon Ossoff and the Democrat Communists want to let the Marxists into power, bankrupt your families, and leave you totally undefended with wide open borders, but we will not let that happen to our country.”
Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB), which he and his administration have oft touted as the largest tax cut in history, is actually the sixth-largest. Per the nonpartisan Tax Foundation, a D.C.-based nonprofit, five others previously brought more relief to American citizens.
The 2025 “no taxes on tips” legislation was a bipartisan effort that had strong Republican and Democrat support. It passed as part of OBBB. Ossoff voted against the OBBB.
This isn’t the first time Republicans have attempted to paint Ossoff as an ultra-liberal candidate. In 2020 former Republican Sen. David Perdue insisted in a campaign ad that Ossoff was endorsed by the Communist Party USA; the Party subsequently denied that claim outright.
