WASHINGTON — President Trump showed a gentler side Wednesday as he held a young boy’s hand and accepted a handmade bracelet from a girl while promoting “Trump Accounts” in Georgia — before veering into mocking home-state Sen. Jon Ossoff as “a Pee-wee Herman look-alike.”
Three-year-old Ray Loden reached his hand out toward Trump as his father, Cole, a data center construction project manager, praised the president for signing into law the investment accounts.
The president held the boy’s hand throughout his dad’s remarks as his two young siblings and mother stood nearby.
Trump made the trip to Marietta, north of Atlanta, to illustrate the impact of the accounts through which the federal government provides $1,000 in seed funding to children born during his term.

Among the speakers was a Surinamese-American entrepreneur named Dean, whose daughter gave the president what appeared to be a friendship bracelet, specifying it was for his granddaughter Kai, as she walked off stage.
Georgia Republican gubernatorial nominee Rick Jackson, a healthcare staffing CEO announced on stage that he would ask the state legislature to match the $1,000 federal contribution to the accounts.
“It changed my life when I got a $100 Christmas gift in an orphanage,” Jackson said.
“I believe our legislature will approve that [$1,000 match]. If they don’t, I will personally donate it myself.”
Trump praised businesspeople in his remarks, including computer pioneer Michael Dell, for additional contributions to the accounts.
‘Communists’ and ‘Pee-wee’Trump swiftly veered away from promoting the accounts to swiping at Democrats — warning about the surging socialist wing of the party ahead of the November midterms.
“While our administration is lifting up the next generation with the power of freedom and American capitalism, proven all over the world when it’s done right. It’s not always done right… The radical left is actively trying to destroy our children’s future with the disaster known as communism,” Trump charged.
“This isn’t social democrat. These are communists by another name, right?” he said.
Trump said socialist policies would lead to people living in “absolute squalor,” and said national monuments were even at risk, including Mount Rushmore.
“You know, the communists want to take it down; they try taking Mount Rushmore down. They want to blow it up. They want to take it down. ‘They shouldn’t be up there.’ These people are crazy,” he said.
“We have some great candidates running. They got to win by a lot, otherwise we’re going communist.”
Trump focused his attacks on Ossoff, the incumbent Democratic senator who is facing a challenge from Republican Rep. Mike Collins. Ossoff is leading by about 5.5 percentage points, according to the Real Clear Politics average of recent polls
“Jon Ossoff is terrible, and the Democrats in Congress are voting with the communists every single time. They’re afraid of the communists,” Trump claimed.
Collins “is going to beat Pee-wee Herman,” he said.
