Trump declares ‘We don’t need the Hormuz Strait’

Trump declared America has no need for the Strait of Hormuz because the US already controls a huge slice of the oil market, thanks to its new ties to Venezuela The post Trump Declares ‘We Don’t Need the Hormuz Strait’ first appeared on Mediaite.

President Donald Trump declared the USA has no need for the Strait of Hormuz — but he still wants to pummel Iran to prove it can never control the vital oil passage anyway.

The president said during a Wednesday rally in Georgia the strait isn’t a big deal for America because the U.S. already controls a huge huge chunk of the oil market. Trump said it was thanks in large part to the operation that plucked Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro from his bed at the start of the year.

“It’s been incredible actually, it’s got serious oil,” Trump said about Venezuela. “In fact, if you combine us and Venezuela, we have about 62% of the world’s oil market, so we don’t need straits, we don’t need anything.”

The audience clapped and hollered in approval.

Trump continued, “We don’t need the Hormuz Strait, but we do it because we have to do it. Because we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon.”

He then turned away from the microphone and soaked up the roar from the crowd.

Trump’s speech followed his threat a few hours earlier in a Truth Social post to wipe out “ONE BRIDGE OR POWER PLANT” for every ship Iran attacked in the strait.

The president’s turbocharged version of “an eye for an eye” comes after the war reignited earlier this month when Iran attacked a Cyprus-flagged ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s attack spurred retaliatory strikes from the U.S. military right after, and those strikes have continued unabated since then. The U.S. conducted its 11th straight night of strikes on Iran on Tuesday.

Trump has argued Iran cannot control the Strait of Hormuz and use it to fund its nuclear ambitions. He told the crowd on Wednesday Iran is run by murderous thugs who have killed 52,000 protesters in the last year, but the “fake news never mentions that.”
