There have been increased calls for the Philadelphia Phillies to remove Trea Turner at shortstop amid recent struggles.
However, on Tuesday night, Turner partially overcame those issues with a superb stop at short against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the top of the 5th inning, Dodgers outfielder Alex Call hit a liner up the middle off Zack Wheeler.
But Turner dove for the ball and got up just in time to make a hard-charging throw to Bryce Harper at first.

Though the Phillies lost 2-1, Turner at least for that one moment sang his redemption song. He went 1-for-4 at the plate.
Turner has made 15 errors this season. On Monday, he made four misplays in the field in a 10-7 loss. In the process, Turner was booed by over 40,000 fans at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. However, he persevered, hitting two home runs and a double. One of those homers was the 200th of his career. After the game, he was defended by Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly.
Turner endured a series of struggles in the infield in his first years in Philadelphia. In 2023, Turner finished the season with a Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) of -12. The next year, he made 13 defensive errors and finished with a -16 DRS rating.
In 2025, Turner started to pick up his defensive game. He finished with a +2 DRS, a 17 Outs Above Average (OAA), and a Fielding Run Value of 11.
Currently, Turner is batting .246 with 99 hits, 14 home runs, 68 runs scored, and 40 RBIs this season. Additionally, he has a -8 DRS rating.
