The Boston Red Sox's season was once dead in the water. That low point feels like it was ages ago amid Boston's astonishing 14-game win streak since July 3rd. The Red Sox are so hot right now that they are, in fact, just one game shy of tying the all-time franchise record win streak of 15 games set by the 1946 iteration led by Ted Williams.
Unfortunately for the Red Sox and their fans, instead of trying to match history on Tuesday night against the Baltimore Orioles, they're going to have to wait a little longer to witness a treasured sports moment in Boston.
Inclement weather in the form of rain and possible thunderstorms moving into the Boston area forced the Red Sox to postpone their Tuesday night matchup with the Orioles. The game will now be tacked onto the series finish with the Orioles on Wednesday and be turned into a split doubleheader. That means the Red Sox could, theoretically, set a new franchise record win streak in one night. Or, they could tie the Red Sox record then lose it mere hours later on the same day.
What wonderful tension and stakes:
If the Red Sox can manage to overcome the adversity Mother Nature has put on their plate here, then they will have really earned every bit of this special win streak.

Boston still has a ways to go before entering that conversation. The longest win streak in MLB history is 26 games, set by the 1916 New York Giants.

At the time of this writing, the Red Sox are still only in third place in the AL East behind the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees, respectively. They have a 1.5-game lead on the Texas Rangers for the last wild-card playoff spot in the American League.
