Tre Holloman is reportedly open to the idea of a return to Michigan State if he were to get a fifth year of eligibility.

Tre Holloman made a surprise appearance at Moneyball on Tuesday night and opened up about his Michigan State departure for the first time to the local media afterward.

Jacob Cotsonika of Michigan State on SI.com was on hand and got to catch up with Holloman following the event where he scored 26 points in a bit of a homecoming performance. He spoke about his “challenging” past year where he decided to follow his gut and when asked if he had regrets, he answered with a “no comment”. I think we all know what that means.

The most interesting part of the conversation, in my opinion, wasn’t about his past year and the challenges he faced after leaving Michigan State, but rather I was drawn to the talk about his future.

We can all sit here and dwell on what already happened, but we must move forward and Holloman is ready for that next step in his basketball career, whatever it may be.

And it may be in the form of a Michigan State return. Or at least he wouldn’t be opposed.

According to Cotsonika, Holloman would entertain the idea of a return to Michigan State for a fifth year in the right situation.

Obviously that’s more of a “can’t close the door” quote rather than something that Holloman is actively seeking out. It does sound like he would consider it if Tom Izzo reached out and the two sides could agree on his role, but he does realize that Michigan State is guard-heavy — though Jeremy Fears Jr.‘s backup is a true freshman.

Tre Holloman would be welcomed back with open arms

I don’t see a scenario in which it happens, but if Holloman did return to Michigan State for the upcoming season, there’s no one on the roster who would turn him away or turn a cold shoulder.

Both Coen Carr and Fears spoke about their old teammate during Moneyball and both said that there are no bad feelings and they were happy to see him. Carr called him his brother and Fears said that Holloman will forever have a place in Michigan State history because of the Big Ten title.

It would be a surprise to get him back, but fans would get over the animosity directed towards him for the way he left the program last offseason. That feels like a lifetime ago now.

Holloman has some things to figure out, but he’s currently living in the Lansing area, he has a daughter now, and he’s looking for that next step in his hoops career while awaiting his fifth year of eligibility ruling. I don’t think he would turn down even a slightly smaller role with Michigan State.
