I’ve been following TikTok creator Briony Machin (@brionymachin) ever since I saw her viral floral mosaic art piece from January 2025. Her latest mosaic project continues her signature florals but transforms a wooden windowsill into something stunning.
Machin uses square tiles that she inlays with a floral design, then covers the entire thing with grout. The results turn a lonely windowsill into something that can be used as a desk, serving window, or something to be admired simply because it’s pretty.

The Mosaic Artist
Machin is clearly a lover of mosaics, as you can see in her projects and the art she shares on her channel from her travels. In one video, she even visits a tile factory in Mexico to choose her own mosaic tiles.
It’s this passion that comes through when she’s creating beautiful pieces like this tiled windowsill.
Mosaic may look complex, but it really isn’t. I’ve done a lot of theatrical set building, and occasionally we’ve had to create mosaic pieces for productions. The most involved part of the process is cutting tiles to fit the smaller spaces between your designs.
You can see how Machin achieves this with her tile cutter, trimming the tiles to fit between the petal designs she places within the overall project.

Make It Yourself
To copy Machin’s project, you’ll need ceramic tiles (that’s what she says she uses), a tile cutter, and grout. If you love mosaics but don’t want to use tiles, you can do this project with a variety of other materials, including glass beads, stones, or broken pottery.
The key is to lightly adhere the mosaic to the surface, then cover the entire surface with grout. Once you wipe away excess grout with a wet sponge, let the entire thing dry and cure according to the package instructions.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to make this project renter-friendly, but you can make a renter-friendly piece that mimics the style. For the shelf or windowsill look, I’d thrift a side table that matches the height of your window or build one out of wood.
Once you have the piece to the right measurements, copy Machin’s method and then line it up against your window. While it won’t look exactly the same, you’ll have a renter-friendly mosaic piece to hold your plants or trinkets.
