Tourist says USA has proven 'cynical people' wrong after his 2026 World Cup experience

The United States of America was the primary host of the 2026 World Cup, which came to an end on July 19.

Canada and Mexico also hosted matches, but the bulk of the action, including the final between Spain and Argentina, played out in America.

Prior to the tournament, the USA perhaps did not have the best reputation on the global stage, but it appears some fans who have now visited the country for themselves for the World Cup have changed their view.

World Cup visitor praises America

Previously, a German soccer fan shared why he ‘was scared to visit America’ for the World Cup, but he ended up having a positive experience during his stay.

Now, Scottish soccer fan Shaun has said that while ‘many cynical people’ said America would be a ‘disaster of a host’, he thinks that the ‘truth’ is that it ‘was exactly the opposite’.

Taking to X/Twitter, he stated: “The World Cup is over and many, including myself, fly home today. I leave with a heavy heart, but also with excitement at the prospect of returning in the very near future. America, Canada and Mexico deserve enormous credit for hosting an awesome tournament.

“I spent the entire time in America – a country many cynical people said would be a disaster of a host. The truth, in the end, was exactly the opposite. I had the most incredible experience across various US States and Cities during the event, and met so many wonderful, kind and welcoming people in real life, and online.”

Shaun went on to mention that he plans to come back to the United States to live.

He continued: “And as you know, I plan to come back to live. More on that soon.

“So THANK YOU to you all. I have a phone full of footage and photos that I haven’t been able to post yet – I’ll be sharing them all over the coming days and weeks. See ya soon!”

The World Cup is now heading elsewhere in 2030 and 2034, but there is already talk that the USA could host the 2038 tournament.
