A sad day has arrived for Spider-Man fans. This month will be momentous when Tom Holland's fourth MCU feature film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, sets the box office on fire on July 31, but as Marvel Studios giveth, Netflix taketh away.
The original live-action Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire, remains arguably the greatest of all-time. His trilogy in the early 2000's blew the door open on the superhero genre, but the franchise's time has come to an end on Netflix.

Following a long run on Netflix, Maguire's Spider-Man trilogy will no longer be available on the streaming giant after August 4.
That is terrible news for fans of the OG franchise who primarily depend on Netflix to keep the content available, but they can take solace in the fact it remains on Disney+ going forward — assuming they have a subscription to that service.
In a bit of a Peter Parker swap, Netflix did recently add Holland's Spider-Man: Homecoming to its catalog, with the catch that neither Spider-Man: Far From Home nor Spider-Man: No Way Home have made it there yet and currently remain on Disney+. Revisiting Maguire's franchise is key in understanding why many label him the best to ever portray the web slinger — including Tom Hiddleston (Loki) — to the point where, more than two decades later, there are still waves of support for a Spider-Man 4 starring him.
Good and bad news exists on that front, depending on who you ask and when you ask them.
What's the Latest on Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 4?
Recently, it seems as if Spider-Man 4 is simply not going to happen, given the fact Sam Raimi, director of Maguire's original trilogy, made it clear he feels it wouldn't "be right for me to go back and try and resurrect my version of this story" and that he has happily "pass[ed] the torch" to Holland's franchise.
Mattson Tomlin, however, the director lobbying passionately for Spider-Man 4, feels differently about its chances: “Slow and steady wins the race. There won’t be anything to say about that for a long time (if ever!) because it involves a lot of people and politics and things going right that have nothing to do with me.”
What is known is the one condition in which Kirsten Dunst would return to reprise the role of Mary Jane Watson, and that if Maguire does appear in Avengers: Doomsday, as is rumored, it will mark the second MCU film in which he's returned as Peter Parker (third, if he makes an appearance of some sort in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, though that isn't expected).
There is definitely a path toward, and an audience for, Maguire's webslinger, but time will tell if it ever actually happens, or if the initial trilogy — not exiting Netflix — will serve as his only three feature films in the role.
