North Texans are getting a new H-E-B - the third in as many months - and it's a new city for the grocer.
The San Antonio-based company is opening a shop on Wednesday in Murphy, according to a statement. The new digs sit on the eastern side of the city and will be easily accessible to shoppers in Wylie and Sachse.
"You've got rooftops," said Juan-Carlos Ruck, executive vice president. "You've got growth. You've got a gap of not having an H-E-B in town, and so we think there's a room to serve them."
The Murphy store is nestled near the intersection of Farm to Market 544 and McCreary Road - near a number of other well-known retailers, including Walmart, Target and Aldi. Murphy is located generally in the northeastern part of greater Dallas-Fort Worth.
H-E-B is investing in many parts of the region with now more than a dozen stores as it competes with other grocers that are also ramping up store openings. The Texas company opened a shop in Irving last month and a store in the Euless area in May. It also launched a site in Forney earlier this year.
The Murphy store features familiar products throughout, from its famous tortillas to vegetables and yogurt that cater to the South Asian community. There are hot and fresh dishes near one entrance, seafood choices in another area and lots of cheeses not too far away.
The store is set to open at 6 a.m.
