Refy is having a New York City summer, and what I mean by that is that it’s all been good news and massive successes. In the last few months, the brand released three stellar products: a watercolor blush and bronzer, and a Skin Base Hydrating Gel Tint, which is by far the best tinted moisturizer without SPF I’ve tried in recent memory.
I don’t usually have this problem, but there’s so much goodness to go over with this that I’m a little bit overwhelmed. I’ll start by giving you the TL;DR—this is essentially a hydrating serum with a low concentration of pigment. It’s your-skin-but-better and won’t erase pores or imperfections, but will neutralize and improve them.
Refy Skin Base Hydrating Gel Tint
This is a light-to-medium, buildable-coverage skin tint with a thin gel texture that comes in 20 shades (I wear 150N). It has an instant cooling effect that feels like splashing your face with cold water on a hot day. At first, the finish is very dewy, but that eventually tapers down to a natural base that is exceptionally radiant. It never settles into my skin, but instead feels like it fuses with it, all while plumping so much hydration into it via hyaluronic acid. Its viscosity and formulation mean that you could be the most novice makeup user in the world, and it would still look even.
Refy’s Skin Base Hydrating Gel Tint has a small but transformative packaging detail. Usually, I pump out my foundation onto a mixing plate or the back of my hand. I then pick it up using a brush and apply. This prevents caking, avoids patchiness, and minimizes product waste. Refy’s Skin Base Hydrating Gel Tint is the only one (that I’m aware of) to have one built in. Lastly, I appreciate a tinted moisturizer without SPF in it. I have my own sun protection routine and don’t always need so many cooks in the kitchen.
