Ferrari will officially auction off the first series production example of its controversial
Luce electric car to benefit charity as part of RM Sotheby’s Monterey Car Week festivities.
Unlike most of these “first off the line” auctions, Ferrari isn’t letting the bidders create their own spec for this particularly special Luce. Instead, the automaker shipped the car over to its Tailor Made department for extensive visual enhancement.
The exterior is finished in a bespoke Madreperla Semi-Gloss hue, which Ferrari says features iridescent pigments that shift from green to violet in different light. It mostly looks like a semi-gloss white, however. That bright theme continues throughout, with the black accent pieces being swapped out for new Grigio Corvara units. The wheels are also finished in a white hue, further accented by a set of bespoke white brake calipers. Even some of the Ferrari badges are set against the bright white backdrop. Overall, it’s an inoffensive livery for a controversial car. There's almost an element of Apple design language about it.
Inside, this special Luce’s interior is finished in Le Mans metallic leather in a unique color called Perla, which is also a shade of white from what we can tell. This tailor-made material is hand-selected from the brand’s finest Swiss hides, ensuring it remains a touch above your typical Ferrari product. Ferrari says that the color of the leather helps diffuse light throughout the cabin in a unique way, further enhancing the bright theme on the outside of the car. The leather is also reportedly extra soft, so at least you'll enjoy sitting in the car. It’s a cool setup for a bespoke interior, but one that looks like it would be darn near impossible to keep looking this clean.
This particular Luce, known as VIN 0, is slated to be auctioned off during RM’s Monterey event, which takes place on August 13-15. It’s a no-reserve auction, so someone will surely end up with this thing at the end of the day. The price will also likely be striking too, as all of the proceeds are slated to be donated to The Ferrari Foundation. The organization is a 501(c)(3) public charity that focuses its efforts on early childhood development, educational initiatives, and the future of healthcare. That also means you can always blame the high hammer price on your charitable bent.
