No one loves to insert more random celebrities into big sporting events than the United States.
The 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup Final is taking place on Sunday. Argentina is taking on Spain at New York New Jersey Stadium, otherwise known as Metlife Stadium, in the final match of the tournament on Sunday. Spain is coming off a dominant win over France, while Argentina is coming off a comeback win over England.
FIFA and FOX have pulled out all the stops at the World Cup Final on Sunday, but they're doing too much with celebrities.
Why is Jennifer Hudson performing the U.S. national anthem before a game featuring a European and South American country?
Why is Tom Cruise doing a pregame introduction on the field?
Why is FOX showing countless celebrities who have no connection to either country on the broadcast?
At a certain point, you should just let the big-time sporting event speak for itself. You don't need to insert random celebrity after random celebrity to make it feel like a big deal. We already know that it's a big deal.
World Cup fans annoyed by celebrity influence
"What the are they doing with the World Cup final the us ruins everything it touches," one fan wrote.
"Nobody ruins big-time sporting events like random celebrities," one fan added.
"I can’t take any of this pre-match show stuff seriously. Why am I watching Tom Cruise do a monologue 10 minutes before a World Cup Final?" one fan added.

Hopefully, the game will be able to stand for itself, and FOX won't have to go to celebrity after celebrity in the stands.
