The Sci-Fi Epic Quentin Tarantino Said Had the "Last Terrific Car Chase" Is Officially Free to Stream

One of James Cameron’s greatest sci-fi blockbusters is now streaming free online for its 35th anniversary, with a theatrical comeback also on the way.

There are more streaming services now than most people can keep track of, and the list keeps growing every year. Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, Peacock, Paramount+, Apple TV, the roster goes on, and so does the monthly bill that comes with subscribing to more than one of them. That's why it's such a pleasant surprise when a movie becomes available to stream for free, although it's almost always a cake that everyone has had a little piece of before. This one's widely regarded as one of the finest movies ever made, stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, carries substance, and will therefore genuinely make fans happy.

The film in question comes from James Cameron, the director behind the Avatar franchise, and it belongs to one of his biggest properties outside of Pandora. This particular entry is part of a $2 billion franchise, all built around a war between humanity and AI. To win the war before it even starts, the machines keep sending deadly cyborgs back in time to kill the people who will one day lead the human resistance. Quentin Tarantino even once described the movie as having the "last terrific car chase" in film history.

If you hadn’t guessed by the plot, the franchise isTerminator, and the film now streaming for free is Terminator 2: Judgment Day, widely regarded as the best entry in the series. The sequel broughtArnold Schwarzenegger back as T-800, this time as the protector rather than the villain, and audiences fell in love. T2 went on to gross $520 million worldwide, and still stands as the highest-grossing film in the entire Terminator franchise. The full movie is now available to stream for free on YouTube, though viewers will have to sit through the occasional ad break, because nothing is ever truly free.

‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day’ Is Also Getting a Theatrical Re-Release

Watching Terminator 2 at home for free is hard to complain about, but some movies are simply built for the big screen. If you'd rather skip YouTube's ad breaks and experience every iconic action scene the way audiences did back in 1991, you'll have that chance very soon. On July 7, StudioCanal, Fathom Entertainment, and Rialto Pictures announced a special theatrical re-release celebrating the film's 35th anniversary.

The classic sci-fi sequel will return to U.S. theaters beginning August 28, and will remain on screens till September 2. Fans will also be able to see it in 4K, RealD 3D, 4DX, D-BOX, and other premium formats. Whether you choose the free YouTube stream or decide to catch it during its limited theatrical run, the next few weeks offer two great ways to revisit one of cinema's greatest action blockbusters ever made.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day is available to stream for free on YouTube. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
