'The Odyssey' has no post-credits scene, but Christopher Nolan has one final treat for fans

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey may skip the now-familiar post-credit surprise, but the filmmaker still has one final treat waiting after Odysseus’ long voyage home. From the blood-soaked battlefields of the Trojan W** to the emotional shores of Ithaca, Nolan’s IMAX epic transforms Homer’s timeless legend into a breathtaking cinematic odyssey unlike anything audiences have witnessed before. And while many moviegoers may be tempted to wait for one last twist after the credits, Nolan has something entirely different in mind.

Believe it or not Christopher Nolan hardly ever needed an extra scene to make audiences stay in their seats. 

Moviegoers hoping for a Marvel-style stinger should know that The Odyssey does not include a post-credit or mid-credit scene. Once Odysseus’ extraordinary journey reaches its final destination, the story officially comes to a close, with no hidden sequel tease, surprise character reveal, or additional footage waiting after the credits. Instead, Nolan allows Homer’s legendary voyage to stand on its own, trusting the ending to leave its mark without one final cinematic wink.

That does not mean the credits are without rewards. As the names begin to roll, audiences are treated to 'When I’m Home,' an original song co-written by Christopher Nolan, marking the first songwriting credit of his career.

 Performed by James Blake, Travis Scott, and longtime collaborator Ludwig Göransson, the neo-classical track closes Odysseus’ homecoming on an emotional note before the film ends with a heartfelt dedication to David Keighley, the longtime IMAX visionary whose pioneering work helped bring The Odyssey’s groundbreaking all-IMAX presentation to life just weeks before his passing in 2025.

Judging by the waves it is already creating, audiences may not need a post-credits surprise to keep talking about The Odyssey.

Long before audiences could cast their verdict, critics had already crowned The Odyssey one of Christopher Nolan’s finest achievements. After debuting with an eye-popping 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, the score settled at a remarkable 98%, still enough to eclipse Oppenheimer, The Dark Knight, and Memento as the best-reviewed film of the director’s career. For a filmmaker who has spent decades redefining blockbuster cinema, the latest triumph feels less like a surprise and more like another legend added to his mythology.

Now all eyes turn to audiences. With IMAX screenings selling out, social media overflowing with first reactions, and advance ticket demand reflecting extraordinary anticipation, The Odyssey appears poised to turn critical acclaim into a full-fledged box office odyssey. If early momentum continues, Nolan may not have simply adapted Homer’s timeless epic; he may have crafted one of modern cinema’s own. And if critics are any indication, Odysseus’ voyage has already found its way into filmmaking history.

And that is exactly why Christopher Nolan has never needed post-credit teases to keep audiences invested. Thus, judging by the overwhelming early acclaim, that final act of confidence may be the most rewarding surprise of all.
