Kevin Feige Confirms Saddie Sink Had a MCU Privilege That Even Tom Holland Didn’t Get

Tom Holland may be Spider-Man, but even he did not have the privilege that Sadie Sink had when joining the Marvel family. The Stranger Things star made headlines as she was announced as the newest cast member of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, joining Holland and Zendaya in the highly anticipated sequel. While her character remains under wraps, the production and cast have shared a few fascinating details about the actress.

One such is Sink being able to avoid the mountain of hurdles that usually an actor faces to join Marvel.

In a Spider-Man: Brand New Day press conference, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that Sadie Sink was cast directly in Marvel's Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Now, not everyone is able to skip the lengthy audition process altogether. Tom Holland, who famously went through multiple rounds of auditions to become Spider-Man, could not resist teasing Sink about it.

“Must be nice!.. Must be nice,” he said.

Now, this was not a leap of faith. Sink had already worked with Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton on the 2017 film The Glass Castle and had proved her talent to be in the crew. As for her role, Sink did not even receive the script until she arrived in London to begin filming to avoid spoilers. Once production got underway, however, she revealed that the cast, including Tom Holland, supported her throughout the time, while the actor also praised Sink.   

“It was interesting stepping into that space and being a little bit of an outsider in that way, but he could not have been more welcoming, and just the whole crew in general. He was just so relaxed and open, and I felt very at ease,” Sink told Nylon. 

Now, Holland, who was once a young newcomer himself and unfamiliar with the Spider-Man franchise, helped Sink find her footing on set. But the actor's own journey into the Marvel Cinematic Universe was quite tough.

Tom Holland's journey to becoming Spider-Man was a tough seven-month-long audition process. During Variety’s Actors on Actors, the actor revealed that he went through six rounds of auditions without receiving much feedback from Marvel. His biggest test came in Atlanta, where he screen-tested opposite Robert Downey Jr.

"It’s weird. The audition process was horrible. It was seven months of auditioning. I must’ve done six auditions, and they don’t tell you anything," he said.

The pair had a natural chemistry. But six weeks later, Holland had to return for a final screen test, performing a fight scene with Chris Evans. He almost thought he lost the role since he never got any call. However, he was stunned to discover Marvel had announced him as the new Spider-Man through the press. While Sadie Sink may have gotten a pass, Holland had to weave some nets to get through.
