The new 2027 GMC Sierra 1500—like its light-duty corporate counterpart, the Chevy Silverado—has been redesigned inside and out. And while the exterior design changes could be described as incremental, GMC went much further with the truck's interior.
GMC sees itself as a premium brand, and the new Sierra's interior is designed to better reflect that positioning. Predictably, the cabin's screen acreage has grown. The 16.3-inch center touchscreen (up from 13.4 inches in the outgoing Sierra) is joined by a 12.2-inch driver's display and an 11.5-inch passenger display—a Sierra first. The passenger screen is optional in the AT4 and Denali, standard on the AT4X and Denali Ultimate. Those screens mirror the offerings in the new Silverado, but in a GMC exclusive, the motorized center screen rises up to reveal a storage cubby behind; that's standard in the Elevation, Denali, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate trims.
Additional tricks include a center-console cover that flips open to become a flat work surface and cupholders that can be repositioned within the console. It also includes two magnetic wireless charging pads that prop your phone up at an angle.
A panoramic sunroof is available for the first time. It's standard on the Denali, Denali Ultimate, and AT4X; it's optional on the AT4 and Elevation. The two top trims, AT4X and Denali Ultimate, get a new 16-speaker stereo system with speakers mounted in the headrests, and the Ultimate's open-pore wood trim is now birch; both are GMC exclusives. For 2027, the AT4X also gets more heavily bolstered front seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and metal speaker grilles.
Despite the heavy emphasis on screens, GMC retained physical buttons. "We know our customers want hard controls," said head interior designer Therese Pinazzo, adding, "We know they want a tactile connection to the truck."
The 2027 Sierra goes on sale late this year, and GMC will announce more details, including features and pricing, in between now and then.
