Amazon’s big sales weeks are usually a bad place to buy whisky. The bottles that get shouted about tend to be the ones supermarkets are trying to shift, and a “was £X, now £Y” flash almost never survives a look at what the specialists actually charge. So think of this less as a list of the loudest discounts and more as a curated shortlist: six bottles we’d happily pour ourselves, that happen to be sitting at prices worth a second look right now.
A quick, honest word on those prices first. The figures below were captured while the deals were live, and Amazon being Amazon, some may already have moved by the time you read this. Prices tend to move fast on Amazon, but if a price has drifted, the whisky is still worth knowing about; that’s rather the point of the exercise.
Here, then, are the six.
Ardnamurchan AD - £39.99
If you buy one bottle off this list, make it this one. Ardnamurchan AD is about as enthusiast-proof as a sub-£40 Scotch gets, and it’s the bottle we’d press into the hands of anyone either new to whisky or convinced they don’t like the stuff yet.
The appeal starts with what’s actually in the bottle. The core release is a roughly fifty-fifty marriage of unpeated and peated spirit, matured in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks and bottled at 46.8% ABV, un-chill filtered and with natural colour. That last detail matters more than it sounds: those are the presentation choices serious drinkers look for, and finding them at this price is rare. The result is a coastal, gently smoky malt with real layers to it - savoury and salty one minute, sweetly sherried the next.
Ardnamurchan the distillery only fired up in 2014, but it has built one of the more convincing modern credibility stories in Scotch. It leans hard into responsible distilling - a woodchip biomass boiler, local forestry, hydro-electric power from the Glenmore river - which is a good deal more concrete than the usual green marketing. The awards back it up, too: the AD Core scored 95 points at the IWSC in 2024 and took a Silver at that year’s World Whiskies Awards. One thing to keep in mind is that AD is a batch release, so bottlings do vary a little over time. Part of the fun, if you ask us.
Should you buy it at £39.99? Comfortably, yes. The current specialist benchmark is £46.95 at The Whisky Exchange, so even where Amazon hasn’t been showing a live basket price, this sits meaningfully below the going rate for a genuinely excellent whisky.
Bladnoch Liora - £39.97
This is the one to move quickly on, if you can still find it at the price. Liora is Bladnoch’s first “Distiller’s Strength” release - 52.2% ABV, matured in bourbon and new oak casks, non-chill filtered and natural in colour. In plain terms, it’s a big, generous, sweet Lowland malt: think vanilla custard, caramel, toasted oak and orchard fruit, with the heft that comes from bottling at a proper strength rather than the standard 40%.
Bladnoch brings serious distillery-level authority to the table. It traces its roots to 1817, calls itself the oldest independently owned Scotch whisky distillery, and is the southernmost distillery in Scotland - the sort of heritage that whisky readers actually care about. The distillery has picked up plenty of recognition of late, including honours at the 2024 World Whiskies Awards. Worth being precise here: those are distillery and range achievements rather than medals for Liora itself, so we’d not go claiming this specific bottle is an award-winner. Its case rests on the specs and a warm reception from reviewers and hobbyists alike, several of whom have parked it among their favourite cask-strength Scotches. Community chatter rather than gospel, but telling all the same.
The price is where it gets interesting. Bladnoch still sells Liora directly at £65, and Amazon’s current page shows other sellers from around that same £65 mark rather than the sub-£40 we captured. So a live £39.97 would be no ordinary saving - it’s roughly 38% under official pricing, which turns a serious enthusiast bottle into supermarket-gift-shop money. If it’s still there when you click, that’s the deal of the list.
Tullibardine 225 Sauternes Finish - £27.99
The budget star of the week, and a personal soft spot of ours. If you love the plump, honeyed sweetness that a good sweet-wine cask brings, the sort of thing the Sauternes-finished Bruichladdichs do so well, the Tullibardine 225 is a cheap and cheerful way in. It’s a 43% Highland single malt, matured first in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and then finished in 225-litre Sauternes casks (hence the name), with the producer pointing to citrus, vanilla, oatmeal, pineapple and orange zest over a creamy finish.
Be clear-eyed about what this is and isn’t. At 43% and with The Whisky Exchange noting that colouring is used, it doesn’t carry the same enthusiast credentials as the Ardnamurchan or the Bladnoch - this is a fun, fruity cask-finish curiosity rather than a purist’s statement dram. But at £27.99 that’s beside the point. The producer currently lists it at £46, The Whisky Exchange at £42.75 and Master of Malt at £47, so you’re looking at roughly a third off the going market for a whisky that punches well above pocket-money prices. Call it the best budget curiosity here.
Clydeside Stobcross - £31.98
A proper Lowland story for anyone who likes to drink local histories as well as whiskies. The Clydeside Distillery opened on Glasgow’s waterfront in 2017, building on the Morrison family’s long whisky lineage, and released its first single malt only in October 2021 - so Stobcross is young, and its youth is part of the tale rather than something to hide.
What you get is a bright, fruit-led malt bottled at 46% with natural colour and no chill-filtration: floral sweetness, orchard and tropical fruit, a twist of white pepper. Reviewers have it pegged as light, summery and easy to enjoy (Whisky Magazine scored it a respectable 7.6), though some feel the core bottling still tastes its age for the money. That’s a fair reading. At £31.98 (Amazon’s page has recently shown it nearer £37.99) this is sensible money for a likeable modern Lowlander, so long as you go in wanting freshness and drinkability rather than depth.
Woven HOMEMADE - £34.95
We’ll admit a bias: Woven is simply a brand we enjoy following. The Edinburgh outfit blends across regions with real curiosity, and HOMEMADE is a good showcase. It is a 46.4% release built from Speyside single malt and Lowland single grain, with an unusually high malt content and sherry-seasoned cask influence, bottled in a run of 8,120 after a 70-day marrying period.
It’s a well-made, easy-going dram that whisky people tend to respect rather than rave about, and it’s a nice way to broaden your shelf beyond straight distillery bottlings into modern blending. On the deal itself, be realistic: Woven sells HOMEMADE direct at £45, so £34.95 is a genuine if unspectacular saving rather than a collapse in price. Buy it because you’re curious about what a thoughtful contemporary blend can do, not because you’re chasing the biggest discount on the page.
Connacht Spirit of the Atlantic - £34.95
The wildcard, and a rewarding one. This is Connacht’s first core release - a five-year-old Irish single malt matured in ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks, bottled at 44.8% and natural in colour, with the neat historical footnote that it’s the first legal whiskey made in County Mayo in 150 years. The reviews are encouraging for something this affordable: Whisky Magazine scored it 8.1, and it holds up well on the enthusiast databases.
With a recommended price of around €64.99, an Amazon figure of £34.95 makes this a smart outsider pick - sherried, coastal Irish malt for less than you’d expect to pay. The one caveat is that the firmest price references here are older or international, so treat it as a clever punt rather than a cast-iron price comparison. If you like your whiskey with a bit of Oloroso richness and a story attached, it’s an easy one to say yes to.
The Bottom Line
If you want the safest buy, it’s the Ardnamurchan. If you want the biggest saving, and can still find it live, it’s the Bladnoch Liora. And if you just want the most whisky for the least money, the Tullibardine 225 is hard to argue with. Prices move fast on weeks like this, so check the live figure before you commit, but on the whisky itself, all six earn their place.
