Now that Ariana Grande has rekindled her romance with Ricky Alvarez, many wonder how her ex, Ethan Slater, has taken the news (and how he heard about the romance). Turns out, he found out about Grande and Alvarez's romance in a rather awkward way.
Insiders told the Daily Mail that Slater found out about the new romance through their pals
"Ariana hasn't told Ethan specifically, but mutual friends have told him that she is now dating Ricky again," an insider told the outlet. "It was important to her to still be loosely in contact with him as they still had mutual friends."

For those who don't know, Grande and her former backup dancer Alvarez dated from Jun 2015 to Jul 2016. They first met in 2014 when he officially became her backup dancer. While the relationship was short, it was a favorite and they seemingly got back together on her birthday in 2026.
As for Slater, he and Grande met on the set of the beloved film Wicked. Grande began a close friendship with Slater and his ex-wife Lilly Jay, frequently liking their social media posts and hanging out with the family of three (yes, Jay and Slater welcomed a son back in 2022).
Then, in June 2026, it was reported that the pair had split up months prior.
