'Terrifying' experience as 3-year-old girl bit by snake hiding under package with her present inside

A 3-year-old girl was bitten by a venomous snake in her own yard while going outside to retrieve a gift that had been delivered in an Amazon package.

Manuel Barajas described the 'terrifying experience' after his daughter, Addy, was bitten by a Southern Pacific rattlesnake at their home in Santa Clarita, California.

Barajas said his little girl noticed a package containing a gift for her and rushed outside to grab it.

'Tragically, a Southern Pacific rattlesnake was hiding under the brown padded envelope and bit Addy's left hand,' the father wrote on a fundraiser page.

Addy's mother, Lynn, immediately rushed her daughter to nearby first responders, who transported her to a hospital where she was administered antivenom.

However, Addy later needed to be transferred to a pediatric intensive care unit, where she remained for two nights and received two additional rounds of antivenom treatment.

Thankfully, the little girl has made a strong recovery. Speaking to KTLA, Barajas said: 'She's doing great now.

'I'd say she's about 70 percent recovered. She's still bruised on her left hand where she was bitten.'

He added: 'Her spirits are high, her demeanor is great, but she keeps asking why she got bitten by a snake.'

Barajas said he was out of town on business when the incident occurred and rushed home to be with his family.

However, he is now seeking support as the family faces significant medical bills from Addy's hospital stay, antivenom treatments, and time in the pediatric ICU. He also missed about a week's worth of work while caring for his family.

'We are doing everything we can to support Addy's healing, but the costs are overwhelming,' Barajas wrote on GoFundMe.

'We never imagined we'd be in this situation, and it's hard to ask for help, but we need support to get through this difficult time.'

At the time of reporting, the GoFundMe campaign had raised more than $12,000 from hundreds of donors.

The incident comes as another young girl recently suffered a rattlesnake bite while vacationing in Colorado.

Quinn Robertson traveled from Kansas with her parents last week to attend her aunt's wedding, her mother, Colleen Robertson, told Fox 4.

During the trip, Quinn and her mother went outside to look at horses, unaware that a venomous snake was hiding nearby.

The rattlesnake bit the toddler twice on the leg, leaving her crying in pain, Colleen said.
