Ted Lasso's Seasons 4–6 Plans Teased By Jason Sudeikis

Ted Lasso is not looking at ending any time soon, as the Apple TV sports comedy series has plans for another three seasons now that it has returned.

Ted Lasso is ready to make fans believe again.

Apple TV's roster of shows features many hits from different genres. That said, the streaming service has had its fair share of success with original comedies like Shrinking, Dickinson, The Studio, and Ted Lasso. The latter explored the world of soccer through the lens of a lovable football coach who was way out of his depth. Ted Lasso season 3 was thought to be the final season of the show, but the times have changed. The comedy is coming back, with Ted Lasso season 4 set to debut on August 5, and the show has no plans of stopping after that.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis talked about his hopes that fans will stay with the show for the long run, as the Apple TV series' creators have another three-season arc to tell, which would bring Ted Lasso up to at least season 6. According to Sudeikis, he needed Ted Lasso to come back, saying, "I needed it as much as other people do." The plan is for the show's writers' room to be active once again in late August to map season 5, which has yet to be officially green-lit.

Ted Lasso season 3 ended on May 31, 2023, over three years ago. The season's final episode felt like a true series finale, with the Apple TV sports comedy seemingly wrapping up many characters' arcs, which included Coach Lasso's departure from AFC Richmond to focus on his mental health and spend more time with his son back home. As Brett Goldstein's Roy Kent took over the head coach job in the men's team, the creation of the AFC Richmond Women's Team was teased, and that is exactly what the main storyline of Ted Lasso season 4 revolves around.

The way Sudeikis' character returns to action is through the coaching job at the AFC Richmond Women's Team. This will allow the Apple TV series to bear some familiarity with previous seasons, while also treading new ground with plenty of fresh characters joining the show. One of those will be Tanya Reynolds' yet-to-be-named character, who will work closely with Ted and Coach Beard as an assistant coach of the AFC Richmond Women's Team. As Ted Lasso season 4 serves as the start of a new chapter for the show, Sudeikis' long-term plans make a lot of sense for the Apple TV series.

Ted Lasso had an initial three-season plan that took characters like Ted, Nate, Roy Kent, Jamie Tartt, Rebecca, Keeley, and many more on transformative journeys. The show's main character went from someone the players had disdain for to a true friend and respected leader to all, finally understanding how soccer worked and making AFC Richmond a competitive team. Ted also dealt with mental health issues throughout the first three seasons, choosing to leave the team at the end of season 3 to complete his journey. Now, all the characters are in a different place, and Ted Lasso can start a new three-season journey.
