Supernatural officially announces two separate spinoff series for Sam & Dean

Supernatural is officially bringing Dean and Sam Winchester back this fall. However, the franchise is gearing up for a story so big that it can't be told in a single series. As a result, the two brothers will each be getting their own spinoff: Supernatural: Dean Winchester and Supernatural: Sam Winchester. Ahead of its San Diego Comic-Con announcement, Dynamite has shared with ScreenRant its plans for the next major chapter in the franchise, which will give Dean and Sam each their own solo spinoff series. Those who have been keeping up with all things Supernatural are likely familiar with Greg Pak’s ongoing Supernatural title. However, it was recently confirmed that the series would be wrapping up on August 26, 2026, leaving fans wondering what was next for the Winchester brothers.

While the series was coming to an end, fans knew that Dynamite was still setting up something huger for Dean and Sam thanks to the upcoming September 2, 2026, release of the one-shot Supernatural Special: Wayward. Its synopsis teased: “The split starts here – in a shocking one-shot issue that sets the table for the explosive event to come!”

Now, fans know exactly what this “explosive event” is leading to with the confirmation of Dynamite’s next major phase of Supernatural comics: writers Chuck Brown and Paulina Ganucheau’s upcoming dual October release of Supernatural: Dean Winchester #1 and Supernatural: Sam Winchester #1. While these two issues will kick off as separate titles, they will be interconnected, resulting in the biggest and most ambitious Supernatural story yet.

Fans may be scratching their heads when it comes to Sam and Dean getting their own solo series, since the brothers have historically starred together throughout their Supernatural adventures. However, these two series are built around the premise of the brothers being unexpectedly split apart. That split begins in Supernatural: Wayward, the special by Ganucheau and artist John Amor, which is why fans are encouraged to read the special before diving into Dean and Sam’s solo series in October.

As a result of the brothers being separated, Supernatural: Dean Winchester and Supernatural: Sam Winchester will each focus on its respective brother as they go solo and take on thrilling cases. Yet, there will also be one resounding question echoing throughout both titles: How long can they stay apart, and what could ultimately drive them back together?

Eisner Award-winning writer Chuck Brown (Aquamen, Black Manta, Dejah Thoris) and all-star artist Rapha Lobosco (Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living) will be spearheading Supernatural: Dean Winchester. The series will follow Dean, hurt and alone, through the boozy and shadow-strewn streets of New Orleans, with the official synopsis teasing: “It's Mardi Gras in the Big Easy, which means not only flocks of colorful characters, but also its hallowed alleyways crawling with creepiness and mystery. Dean is determined to close a case his dad never could, but to do so, he might have to murder a god…”

Meanwhile, writer Paulina Ganucheau (Disney Villains: Maleficent, The Powerpuff Girls, Lemon Bird: Can Help!), alongside rising artist Kendall Goode (The Terminator, Dirtbag Rapture), will be delivering new tales for the younger Winchester brother in Supernatural: Sam Winchester: “After he's done something to Dean that he can never take back, Sam is drawn to an abandoned town deep in the heart of Appalachia. Guided by cryptic phone calls, he finds himself wrapped up in a mystery as old as the mountains themselves. Will the ancient eldritch horrors overtake this Winchester?”

While every Supernatural fan has a favorite brother, readers should follow both series for the best reading experience, especially since the two titles will be intertwined. Furthermore, Dynamite has already confirmed plans for the brothers beyond these two series, meaning even more shocking tales are on the way that will eventually reunite the wayward family once more.

Currently, Dynamite's Supernatural titles have taken place between seasons 1 and 2 of the main TV series, and all signs point to that timeline continuing with the Dean and Sam spin-off series. What will be more interesting is how Dynamite keeps the ball rolling for more Supernatural stories going forward. There's only so much blank space between each season of the TV series, and with little room left for stories set after Supernatural's divisive ending, Dynamite and its creators will have to get creative to continue the adventures of Dean and Sam.

Still, fan reception to Dynamite's series has been fairly positive, so fans have good reason to believe the current team of Supernatural writers will find some way to create more adventures with the Winchester brothers. It’s clear that Dean and Sam’s solo titles are truly just the beginning of a new Supernatural golden era.
