SubwayTakes creator Kareem Rahma and writer and artist Karina Muslimova are married!
The popular social media creator, known for his viral interview series that takes place on New York City subways, tied the knot with his longtime love in a New York City wedding ceremony on June 27, after first meeting on Hinge in 2021, per Vogue.
Together, the pair share a daughter, Sufi, whom they welcomed in 2024. It was on a trip to Puerto Rico during the family’s first Mother’s Day with their daughter that Rahma asked Muslimova to marry him — though the couple was initially unsure if they wanted to get married traditionally at all.
“At the beginning of our relationship, we weren’t even sure we wanted one. We used to joke that, in a world full of husbands and wives, we’d still be calling each other boyfriend and girlfriend well into our 80s,” Muslimova told the outlet.
“But after attending the weddings of some of our closest friends, we realized that kind of genuine, shared joy can’t be replicated. There’s something powerful about bringing all the people you love together to celebrate not just us as a couple, but friendship, family, and life itself.”
The couple told Vogue that, originally, they were set to get married in Cairo — where Rahma is from — however, they had to pivot last-minute to a New York City wedding after unrest in Egypt forced them to cancel their original celebrations. Muslimova told the outlet that, without the Egypt plan in place, they felt there was a chance they would never get married at all if they didn’t move quickly. So they booked the rooftop of Nine Orchard in New York City.
The pair was surrounded by their friends and family, including Sufi, who acted as a flower girl for her “Mama and Baba” during the couple’s big day. The bride wore a vintage Vera Wang strapless gown from the ‘90s, and Rahma bought a tuxedo from Jake Mueser. The pair also recounted a little last-minute mishap with one of their most important accessories the morning of the wedding.
They told Vogue that they forgot their wedding bands and had to pop down to New York City’s Chinatown to purchase two bands. Rahma said, “Coincidentally, the husband and wife who owned the little gold shop had also forgotten to buy rings for their wedding day, so it felt like a good omen.”
The couple kept their dinner short after the ceremony to get started on the party immediately. Later, they transitioned to Italian restaurant Casino afterward.
“Even though we already had our daughter and did things a bit out of order, having a wedding after all was the right decision,” the bride said. Added the groom, “I feel like we had the perfect wedding.”
Rahma has grown popular online in recent years, as Subway Takes has grown from a 15-minute, person-on-the-subway-style show to a popular interview spot for celebrities and social media personalities alike. Over the years, Rahma has had guests including actors Austin Butler, Cate Blanchett and Jason Bateman and more.
