So far, 2026 has been a dangerously dry summer for much of the United States. Multiple weeks without rain can cause droughts, which, in some cases, can lead to crop damage, water use restrictions, compromised water quality, and heightened wildfire risk. Since the beginning of June, anywhere from 46% to 58% land area in the U.S. have been in some state of drought, ranging from moderate to exceptional.

Currently, some of the largest and most intense droughts are in the West. Severe or worse drought conditions have now spread across more than 60% of land area in Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico. In Utah, nearly 95% of land area is in either a severe or extreme drought. It is no coincidence that there are 13 major wildfires now burning across nearly half a million acres in these same states, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.

But while a lack of rain is driving dangerously dry conditions in much of the country this summer, there are other places where rainfall totals have been close to normal, or even above average. According to the latest data, there are currently 10 states in the U.S. that are virtually untouched by drought.

Using data from the U.S. Drought Monitor, Climate Crisis 247 identified the states with no drought. We ranked all states on the share of land area classified as either drought-free or unusually dry, the two categories that precede the moderate drought classification. Only the 10 states where less than 5% of land area is in a moderate drought are listed. States with any land area in severe or worse drought were excluded. Supplemental data on state-wide and city-specific rainfall in June and July are from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

10. Michigan
