July 21 (UPI) -- The U.S. Department of State issued a worldwide caution for travelers because of rising conflict in the Middle East "with the potential for unforeseen escalation."
The State Department issued the "worldwide caution" Monday and said that "U.S. diplomatic facilities, including outside the Middle East, have been targeted."
"Due to heightened tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation," the statement said. "Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world."
It also said to prepare for potential flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions.
The State Department urged Americans overseas to enroll in the STEP program to get the latest security alerts and to follow the department's WhatsApp Channel or follow on X.
The United States has continued to strike Iran for 10 straight nights. The Department of Defense on Monday identified two U.S. soldiers killed Friday by an Iranian strike in Jordan. Another unidentified soldier was killed Saturday in Iraq, and another is missing.
At least 17 U.S. service members have been killed since February, and more than 400 have been injured.
