ANN ARBOR, MI - The Michigan Attorney General’s Office is reviewing multiple complaints against John Klein, the Plymouth man accused of leading a scam operation involving Morgan Wallen tickets, University of Michigan memorabilia and more.
The state opened a consumer protection file against Klein after three customers recently claimed they paid Klein for sports memorabilia that was never delivered, Press Secretary Danny Wimmer said in an email to MLive on Wednesday.
Wimmer said the office encourages any customer who purchased goods or services that were not delivered to make a complaint to its Consumer Protection Team.

UM’s licensing agency sent Klein several cease-and-desist letters regarding unlicensed merchandise that he was selling, Michigan athletics spokesperson David Ablauf said in a statement to MLive on Tuesday. UM was made aware of Klein’s operation before the 2025 football season.
“Michigan Athletics has never had a business relationship with John Klein,” Ablauf said.
On July 17, attorneys representing country star Morgan Wallen sent a cease-and-desist letter to Klein and Hailgate. Wallen’s team alleged Klein advertised and sold unauthorized Wallen-related tickets, meet-and-greet opportunities, VIP packages and merchandise. The letter states that Wallen and his representatives had not authorized Klein to use the singer’s name, image or trademarks to promote or sell any products or experiences.
The letter demanded that Klein immediately stop advertising and selling anything Wallen-related, notify customers that he was not authorized to sell them and provide full refunds to affected customers.
It also instructed Klein to preserve all related documents, emails and financial records and warned that if he did not provide proof of compliance by July 20, Wallen’s team could pursue legal action, including injunctive relief, monetary damages and recovery of profits.
In a statement posted to Facebook, Klein said while “we do not admit any liability, wrongdoing, or violation of any law or agreement, we have chosen to voluntarily remove the affected listings while we review the matter.”
Klein said he is offering a full refund to any customer impacted by these changes.
“I understand that some people are frustrated, and I don’t blame you. If I were in your position, I’d probably have questions too. All I ask is that you understand I’m working through a very serious legal matter while doing everything I can to make things right for everyone,” Klein said in the statement.
