As Remco Evenepoel claimed his second stage win at the 2026 Tour de France, his co-leader at Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, Germany’s Florian Lipowitz, was forced to abandon during Tuesday’s time trial.

After winning his first road stage at the 2026 Tour de France on Sunday, Remco Evenepoel shone in his specialty to complete the double. As in 2024 and 2025, the Belgian won a time trial on the Grande Boucle. This Tuesday, the Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe rider from Flanders won Stage 16 between Evian and Thonon-les-Bains. The world time trial champion finished ahead of Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates-XRG) and Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek).

His team, however, didn’t have only reasons to smile. Co-leader of the team alongside Evenepoel, Florian Lipowitz was forced to abandon. Fifth overall on the morning of this time trial, the 25-year-old German crashed in a corner a little more than 6 km from the finish. He was battling with Frenchman Paul Seixas, who holds onto his spot just off the podium.
