Four Premier League clubs are at the top of the biggest spenders list for the summer of 2026 with Bayern and Barcelona playing catch-up.
The transfer window is officially open and clubs across the world are starting to do business.
So here are the teams who have spent most so far this summer…

10) Newcastle United – £78.75m
With more than £150m generated through player sales already this summer, and the promise of more to come once Arsenal get their own way, Newcastle have realised that they probably need to get spending. Ewen Jaouen, Bazoumana Toure and Sean Steur are all 20 and under, drafted in from strong European teams, and will leave once a bigger club flutters their eyelashes.
9) Manchester United – £85m
Two-thirds of a midfield rebuild arrived at Manchester United in the space of two days as Andrey Santos came from Chelsea for a pricey £50m and Youri Tielemans arrived for £35m after a release clause was met. There should be more…
8) Bayern Munich – £85.7m
A little peek through the World Cup shop window has landed the Bundesliga champions Morocco standout Ismael Saibari and undisgraced Germany full-back Nathaniel Brown for €50m apiece from PSV and Frankfurt respectively.
7) Liverpool – £89.5m
Liverpool arranged the deal to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes in January and they have started their summer by p*ssing on Newcastle’s chips again to sign Victor Munoz from Osasuna.
6) AC Milan – £89.84m
The club-record capture of Goncalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain cost an inevitable penny for Ruben Amorim’s new team, while Real Madrid alumnus Mario Gila did not come cheap from Lazio either.
5) Aston Villa – £89.97m
Operating at a massive profit after the exit of Morgan Rogers, they have rebuilt their midfield after the exit of Youri Tielemans to Manchester United with moves for Joao Gomes and Johan Manzambi.
4) Brighton – £107.7m
Some serious money being spent on two teenagers in Luka Vuskovic and Zadok Yohanna while Pascal Struijk is a sensible signing from Leeds United. There has at least been money recouped for Jan Paul van Hecke so the net spend is not too astronomical.
3) Manchester City – £149.45m
A few quid was shuffled sister club Troyes’ way for Mathys Detourbet, but it was the record transfer fee for an English player (£116m) they spent on Elliot Anderson that shot them up the list before a further £3m was spent to sign Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles. And then came Jeremy Monga.
2) Chelsea – £218.92m
Geovany Quenda, Denner and Dastan Satpaev sound right up Strasbourg’s street and then Marco Palestra arrived for pretty substantial money. But then came the big one…a £117m transfer record for a British player dropped on Morgan Rogers.
1) Tottenham Hotspur – £229.5m
Third time lucky for Spurs after they eventually reached a deal with Brighton for Jan Paul van Hecke. That’s three defenders signed this summer with van Hecke following freebies Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi. And then they casually dropped £85m on Mateus Fernandes and an initial £92.5m on Sandro Tonali that could rise to £100m.
