On the one-year anniversary of Ozzy Osbourne's death, Sharon Osbourne has a suggestion for how fans should try to honor her late husband.
Sharon Osbourne was in Ozzy's hometown of Birmingham, England Wednesday of "Ozzy Day," a day of celebration in memory of the Black Sabbath rocker. The festivities included musical tributes and fans flying in from all over the world.
Play music 'loud,' Sharon Osbourne says
In an interview with BBC Radio WM, Sharon Osbourne told people to honor Ozzy's memory by taking his advice.
“As Ozzy would say, ‘When you want to remember me, just yank up the music really loud, as loud as you can get it, and just head bang’,” she said. “He was authentic. He never tried to be anything other than what he was, and he would tell you the truth about everything and that was him, you knew where you were with him.”
Sharon, 73, also said she wants fans to "remember how funny [Ozzy] was - funny and charismatic and real."
"He was just genuine, so genuine and funny," she added. "I mean we could have the worst arguments in the world but we would end up laughing because he would say something so ridiculous that we would just crack up."
Remembering Ozzy, one year later
Ozzy Osbourne died one year ago at the age of 76. His official cause of death was listed as cardiac arrest from an "acute myocardial infarction." Coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease were listed as "joint causes."
Osbourne died less than three weeks after Black Sabbath's "Back to the Beginning" charity concert at Villa Park, which benefitted Cure Parkinson's, Acorns Children's Hospice and Birmingham Children's Hospital's charity.
"We will continue that until we find a cure for Parkinson's, because people don't realize it's more and more prevalent," Sharon Osbourne said Wednesday.
Several of Osbourne's Black Sabbath bandmates posted tributes to him on social media today.
"One year ago today – hard to believe,” bassist Geezer Butler wrote on Instagram. “I am so glad we were able to do the final show, back in our hometown, just a couple of weeks before Ozzy left us. Gone in body, but his legend lives on. Such incredible memories. Ozzy forever!”
