Get to know the real faces behind the King of the Hill crew.
The long-running animated sitcom originally aired on Fox for 13 seasons from 1997 to 2010 before returning in 2025 for a revival. Season 15 premiered on Hulu and Disney+ on July 20, with many original voice actors returning.
At the center of the series are husband Hank Hill (Mike Judge) and wife Peggy Hill (Kathy Najimy), who relocated back to Arlen, Texas, from Saudi Arabia. They reunite with their now-adult son Bobby Hill (Pamela Adlon), who has become a chef.
Judge, also the show’s co-creator, told Texas Monthly in August 2025 that the “really good characters” are to thank for the love they have received over the years.
“Watching it again after having some distance from it, I was like, ‘Wow, we really had something here,’ ” he said. “Also, we weren’t trying to be young and hip back then, so I feel like it’s still relevant, still likable.”

Mike Judge as Hank Hill/Boomhauer
While season 14 saw Hank Hill adjusting to life back in Arlen, his friend Boomhauer, who Judge also voices, was settled into retired life.
Judge spoke to Deadline in August 2025 about the impact of the series on fans, sharing “For me, I’ve gotten a lot of people over the years who said, ‘I watch King of the Hill before I go to sleep.’ And I’m okay with that.”
He added, “I have comfort shows that are like that for me. I really think it’s just that. I want them to just like it. I don’t think of the series as me having some big message or anything like that.”
Outside of his work on King of the Hill, Judge has received acclaim for creating and starring in Beavis and Butt-Head.

Kathy Najimy as Peggy Hill
Just as Peggy Hill returned home to Arlen, Najimy reprised her starring role as the Hill family matriarch.
Ahead of the season 14 premiere, she shared what initially drew her to the series in 1997, and also praised the revival in an August 2023 interview with the Los Angeles Times.
“I thought, ‘This is a really good script and I love that there’s some great writing for women characters, which isn’t always the case,’ ” Najimy recalled.
“It’s really hard to bring something back,” she added. “I think it’s a miracle that they’ve done it so seamlessly … it’s the best job I’ve ever had.”
Najimy is also known for her beloved roles as Mary Sanderson in Hocus Pocus and Mary Patrick in Sister Act, as well as their sequels. Outside of acting, she is an activist for reproductive rights and women’s health.

Pamela Adlon as Bobby Hill
Adlon is back as Bobby Hill, who now lives in Dallas and works as a chef at Robata Chane, a Japanese-German fusion restaurant.
The actress, who received an Emmy in 2002 for her role as Bobby, told TV Insider in August 2025 she had “obviously no hesitation” when she was asked back for the revival.
Since she was returning to voice an adult Bobby and not the teenager she left as in the original run, they “talked about what we could do to satisfy that urge to hear Bobby and not change him too much.”
“And so it’s just a nuance, and he’s still Bobby, and you’re getting all that good Bobby juice but he’s just a little bit older,” she explained.
Outside of King of the Hill, Adlon has received acclaim for the semi-autobiographical series Better Things. She made her feature directorial debut in 2024 with Babes, starring Ilana Glazer and Michelle Buteau.

Tai Leclaire as Joseph Gribble
Tai Leclaire stepped into the role of Joseph Gribble, Bobby’s longtime best friend-turned-roommate, in season 14.
“I grew up with the show and when I found out I got to submit a tape for it I freaked out,” the actor wrote on Instagram while sharing the casting news in June 2025.
Leclaire continued, “It was a blind audition so I had no idea who I was going in for. What I thought was just a guest spot on one episode transformed into two years of incredible work.”
Joseph Gribble was previously voiced by Brittany Murphy (season 1-4) and Breckin Meyer (season 5-13).

Toby Huss as Dale Gribble
Toby Huss — who once voiced Kahn Souphanousinphone Sr. and other King of the Hill characters — returns as the conspiracy-obsessed former Mayor of Arlen, Dale Gribble, for season 15.
Johnny Hardwick previously voiced Dale Gribble — including in some season 14 scenes — prior to his death on Aug. 8, 2023.
Huss told The Hollywood Reporter in August 2025, “In terms of Dale, I think I did one read through where I read Dale in the room, and they just thought, ‘Well, hell, I guess Toby is close enough. Let’s let him do it.’ But it was a really sweet and humbling thing for them to ask.”
Huss’ other television credits include appearances in The Righteous Gemstones and Widow’s Bay, plus voices in Beavis and Butt-Head where he previously worked with Judge.

Ashley Gardner as Nancy Gribble
Ashley Gardner returns as Nancy Gribble, who is Dale’s wife and Joseph’s mom.
In August 2025, the actress spoke to Cracked.com about her reaction to the show coming back.
“I can’t say that I was extremely surprised because the fan base is really solid,” she said. “And we were canceled before we were ready to go.”
Outside of the animated series, Gardner is known for her roles in 1991’s He Said, She Said, and has also lent her voice to Beavis and Butt-Head.

Ronny Chieng as Kahn Souphanousinphone
In season 14, Ronny Chieng stepped in for Toby Huss to voice Kahn Souphanousinphone, who is now divorced from Minh and was living in their garage. Huss voiced the role for its first 13 seasons.
According to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Saladin K. Patterson explained during a July 2025 panel at San Diego Comic-Con that the creative team of the revival “got very lucky in being able to have so many people who were big fans of the show,” including Chieng.
“He was a fan of it and came and joined us,” Patterson continued.
Chieng is also known for his roles in 2018’s Crazy Rich Asians and as a senior correspondent and rotating host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, among others.

Stephen Root as Bill Dauterive
Bill Dauterive, voiced by Stephen Root, became a bit isolated during the pandemic between seasons 13 and 14, but began to get back out there with Hank and Peggy’s arrival back in Arlen.
The actor told The Hollywood Reporter that he was “proud” of how Patterson and the new writers “didn’t change Bill at all.”
Root earned an Emmy nomination for his supporting role in HBO’s Barry as Monroe Fuches, and is a longtime collaborator of the Coen brothers, appearing in films including 2000’s O Brother, Where Art Thou?, 2007’s No Country for Old Men and 2018’s The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.

Lauren Tom as Minh Souphanousinphone/Connie Souphanousinphone
Lauren Tom returned to her roles as Minh and Connie Souphanousinphone, both of whom experienced significant relationship changes through season 14.
Tom told Parents in September 2025 how she drew on her own experiences when approaching Connie — who is now in her 20s — and the mother-daughter dynamics between her and Minh.
“I really related to Connie, just trying to be a good girl and do whatever her parents wanted, and just trying to be as obedient as possible,” Tom said. “And so now, as you see Connie growing up, and just experimenting as college kids do—that made sense to me, coming from a strict family where you didn’t get to break out a lot.”
“That mother-daughter relationship is so universally a subject that people can relate to,” she added. “It brings a certain depth to King of the Hill.”
Tom is also known for her roles in 1993’s Joy Luck Club and as Julie in season 2 of Friends. Meanwhile, she also lent her voice to the animated sitcom Futurama.
