SEC toughest stadium rankings: Where Alabama, Bryant-Denny Stadium sit

Football is king in the SEC, and the conference's biggest brands all have the stadiums to prove it.

On Tuesday, USA TODAY Sports' unveiled its updated rankings of the best -- and toughest -- college football stadiums in the SEC. Alabama's Bryant-Denny Stadium was ranked No. 3 on the list behind LSU's Tiger Stadium and Florida's Ben Hill Griffin Stadium ("The Swamp").

College football analyst Blake Toppmeyer said of Bryant-Denny Stadium:

"Alabama is 65-3 at Bryant-Denny the past 10 seasons. That’s home-field advantage. Anyone who attended the 2024 Georgia game would testify Alabama fans get loud when necessary. When 100,000 sets of crimson-and-white pompoms start shaking in the stands, you know: It’s over."

Alabama's three home losses since 2016 came against LSU in 2019, to Texas in 2023, and last November against Oklahoma. All three teams made the College Football Playoff in those years, and one (2019 LSU) won the national championship.

Prior to those losses, you'd have to go all the way back to 2015 to find the last time Alabama lost at home.

Bryant-Denny Stadium was ranked one spot ahead of Tennessee's Neyland Stadium on USA TODAY Sports' list. Sanford Stadium in Athens rounded out the top five.

Alabama football's all-time record at opposing SEC stadiums

LSU may top USA TODAY Sports' toughest stadiums to play in, but Alabama has lost in Baton Rouge only nine times since Tiger Stadium opened its doors in 1924. How have the Crimson Tide fared historically at each of the 15 SEC stadiums away from Tuscaloosa? Here's a look.

(Author's note: this list only includes records at current SEC venues. For example, Alabama's all-time record at LSU is slightly different from its record at Tiger Stadium specifically. The Tide's record at Ole Miss and Mississippi State is also different from its win-loss total at Oxford and Starkville because of games played off-campus, and so on.)
