SEC media days: Live updates as Nick Saban becomes a 'semi-Gator,' Alabama football talks

There's been no shortage of news from SEC media days. Things continue with Texas A&M football's representatives taking the stand Wednesday to answer questions.

Aggies linebacker Daymion Sanford, safety Marcus Ratcliffe and quarterback Marcel Reed join head coach Mike Elko in Tampa Bay, Fla. A&M has improved every year under Elko, winning 11 games and making the College Football Playoff in 2025. 

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer and Florida head coach Jon Sumrall have already spoken, and representatives from Ole Miss will also be available. Although the Crimson Tide is not the perennial powerhouse it was under Nick Saban, DeBoer returns a talented roster led by wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams. The Gators and Rebels are both under new leadership, with the latter led by Pete Golding.

Jon Sumrall on Texas QB Arch Manning training at Tulane

Sumrall said that each offseason, Archie Manning texts him asking if his grandson, Texas quarterback Arch Manning, can work out at Tulane. The Florida coach says he'd jokingly asked if the latter would want to transfer to the Green Wave.

Nick Saban calls himself a 'semi-Gator'

Alabama fans, shield your eyes. The championship-winning coach with the Crimson Tide said because he now lives in Florida, he's a "semi-Gator," while praising the state's governor and imploring the team to get "it's (expletive) together."

Jadan Baugh says he's putting up big weight

The Florida running back who rushed for 1,170 yards o a 5.3 yard-per-carry average said he's squatting 600 pounds. One of his better 2025 games came in an upset of Texas: 27 rushes for 107 yards, a touchdown and three receptions for 16 yards. Texas meets Florida, this time at home, on Oct. 17.

Jon Sumrall says 'no timeline' on picking a starting QB

Sumrall, the former Tulane head coach, said he grew up thinking there were three leagues: "the AFC, the NFC and the SEC." He mentioned that "you expect a fun offense" at Florida, but said there's been no decision made on whether Aaron Philo or Tramell Jones Jr. will be the starting quarterback.

Defensive back  Zabien Brown talk about quarterbacks Austin Mack and Keelon Russell, who are fighting for the starting spot.

Ryan Williams to earn degree early

The talented Crimson Tide wideout needed just 2.5 years to finish his undergraduate degree, per his head coach. Williams himself talked about what toughness looks like for his team. 

Kalen DeBoer on whether it's championship or bust at Alabama

Alabama gets things started with their head coach. Kalen DeBoer was asked if a national title will define his time with the school. "I wouldn't doubt that that's the case. I'm not focused on that; I'm focused on just helping our program be the best ... and trying to raise the level of everyone around me."
