Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy posted a video on X on Wednesday that underscored the importance of truck safety and the need for secure, reliable processes for obtaining commercial driver's licenses.
Duffy shared an AI-generated video animated with stick-figure drawings in an effort to reveal the simplicity of the issue.
The stick figures showcased the lives of “Honest Hank” and “Problem Pete.”
Honest Hank is seen wearing a USA trucker hat, while Problem Pete has a full mustache, sunglasses, and a backward hat.
Hank studied, earned his permit, attended CDL school, and passed the road test. Pete went to a “shady” operator who overlooked safety standards, and the DMV allowed him to pass even though he couldn’t speak English.
“No habla truck,” Pete said.
The video, created with an AI version of a male narrator's voice, said that CDL testing in some states was offered in over 25 different languages and skipped foreign background checks.
“That’s no bueno,” the AI narrator said.
“Problem Pete’s truck looked like it was held together with duct tape and bad decisions. Hank followed road signs carefully. Pete? Well, Pete couldn’t read them at all.”
The video then showed the stick figure in his box truck plunging off the side of a cliff, where a sign read, “Bridge out ahead.”
“Thankfully, it's the end of the road for Problem Pete. Yes sir, because when President Trump got elected again, he promised to make America safe again. So he and Secretary Sean Duffy, they devised a plan. A plan to restore integrity to our trucking system, and protect you and your family on our American roads,” the ai narrator said.
Duffy announced in February that driver's tests can be completed only in English.
In March, Duffy posted that 17,000 truckers were pulled out of service for failing the English language proficiency test.
In May, a naturalized U.S. citizen from China allegedly killed five people on Interstate 95 in Northern Virginia. The driver was unable to speak English and also refused an English proficiency test after the crash.

Jing Dong, 48, failed to slow down in a work zone and crashed into six vehicles, authorities said. A family of four and a 25-year-old woman died.
He faces five counts of involuntary manslaughter.
