Modern Family star, Sarah Hayland, is often coveted for her gorgeous facial features and ultra-toned physique. The secret behind her everlasting glamor is more than just good genetics. Hyland credits it all to her simple workout routine and realistic diet.
Although Hyland has suffered through multiple health-related issues, her mental strength has helped her overcome each of them. She doesn’t follow an extremely strict diet, often eating cheat meals like burgers, chips, and cookies.
However, her goal is to stick to a protein-rich diet. Since she enjoys working out, she strength trains almost six days a week.
“I like to build muscle by strength training with my trainer. I do an hour-long full-body workout five to six days a week whenever I can,” she said during an interview with Shape magazine in June 2017 (as quoted by Super Hero Jacked). “We focus on different body parts, and in between each one, I do one or two minutes of cardio. It’s pretty intense.”
Hyland also admitted that she enjoys doing reformer or Rise Up Pilates almost six times a week. She credits her flat, toned stomach and incredible abs to Pilates.
“My abs have never looked better than from when I do Pilates. It’s really hard for me to get that muscle in my lower abs,” she told Women’s Health magazine in August 2022.
HYland’s diet is pretty simple. She doesn’t believe in following a super strict meal plan. She starts her day with 12 ounces of almost-black coffee, followed by a smoothie mix. Lunch is typically a light meal like a wrap or a Caesar salad.
Dinner, however, is a big deal. She jokingly calls her dinners a “five-year-old’s dream.” This consists of burgers, chicken nuggets, or shrimp tacos, which must be followed by a dessert.
Hyland believes in balance and moderation rather than focusing on overtraining or extreme diets.
Sarah Hyland’s fitness philosophy: Building strength without the pressure
Rather than chasing perfection, Sarah Hyland focuses on feeling strong and maintaining a consistent schedule.
“I’m the first one to pick up Taco Bell or a pizza. But as long as you account for it with exercise, you’re fine. I believe in everything in moderation,” she said to Shape (as quoted by Celeb Well in 2022).
Hyland often talks about the importance of enjoying exercise rather than doing it as a chore.
“It’s really fun for me,” Hyland said. “I get an endorphin rush and feel good about myself. Plus, my trainer is like my fit therapist! We talk about life, and before I know it, my sets are done.”
She also purchased a NordicTrack rowing machine, admitting that it makes her workouts much more fun.
Hyland has always been open about struggling with body image issues, especially when she was under public scrutiny. However, she slowly learned to accept and embrace her body, focusing more on strength.
The change in her mindset helped her build a healthy relationship with her body over time.
