In a bit of a surprise, Samsung also briefed us on its smart glasses, which are coming this fall. Samsung is still not giving us a name for these glasses, only referring to them as “Intelligent Eyewear”, but we did finally get a look at a few of the designs Samsung has developed with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster.
Unfortunately, Samsung would not let us wear the glasses or really use them. We were, however, able to check out the design and pick them up. Seeing just how light they are. Samsung is not telling us the exact weight of the glasses yet, but as someone who wears the Meta RayBan Wayfarer model, I can definitely say these are much lighter. I’d say they’re closer to what the Rokid AI Style glasses weigh. That’s really good to see, because the big issue I have with my Meta RayBan glasses is the weight. They really start to hurt my nose after wearing them all day.
Better battery life versus Meta’s offering
One area that Samsung was touting during our briefing was the battery life. We’re looking at 9 hours of usage on a single charge here, with 7 full charges from the case. Both of those numbers are larger than what Meta currently offers. That’s quite astonishing, considering these are so much lighter.
Samsung also specifically mentions that the battery life estimate isn’t from just streaming audio all day. It’s from using Gemini Live, listening to music, recording video, etc., throughout the day. This has me very excited for these glasses, when they launch this fall.
Four designs, two partners
Right now, Samsung is showing off two designs from each partner. So that’s two from Gentle Monster and two from Warby Parker. Interestingly, only the Gentle Monster models had their cases on display.
These are the two Gentle Monster styles. Though we do expect to see many more coming.
And these are the Warby Parker styles, which do look quite similar to the RayBan Wayfarer that I currently wear.
Coming this Fall
Since these are not launching until the Fall, Samsung did not want to get into any specifics about the glasses, instead they are basically reminding us that there’s more coming this Fall.
The Samsung smart glasses are launching this Fall – my guess is either IFA or during a separate October launch like Samsung did last year with the Galaxy XR. Because of that, Samsung is also not mentioning anything about pricing, just yet. But I was told that given all the attention to detail, and all the work on these glasses, it’s going to be a good price. Now, I don’t know if that means competitive with Meta’s RayBan and Oakley options or not. But we’ll see in a couple of months.
