Samsung has confirmed a series of job cuts that are taking place at some of its US offices, leading to a significant number of employees being affected. Job cuts at Samsung offices are happening in both New Jersey and in Texas, as the company will be moving official operations across the country.

Its New Jersey-based office reportedly employs about 1,200 people, though not all of those employees are being cut. It isn’t reported how many people exactly were laid off from Samsung’s offices, but it is stated that not all of the employees are leaving the company.

Samsung’s offices which were affected reportedly focus on consumer electronics, and not on components like Samsung’s chips, a business which Samsung has seen a boom in since the demand for memory has increased in the wake of AI data centers showing an increased demand.

Samsung US job cuts are a result of Samsung moving offices

According to a report from Reuters, Samsung is moving its Samsung Electronics America HQ office from New Jersey to Texas, and this move is what has led to the job cuts. While Samsung doesn’t confirm a specific number for the layoffs, it does confirm how many roles are impacted by the move. The report states that 739 people will be affected. However, Samsung has also offered some of the people in those roles relocation offers. These relocation offers would reportedly see those who accepted the offers move to Texas and work out of the new office location. Though it isn’t mentioned whether or not people would remain in the same roles after the move.

In addition to job cuts in New Jersey, it’s reported that Samsung is cutting about 100 jobs at the Plano, Texas office. These cuts include people who worked for the company’s mobile division. It’s also stated that at least some employees were contacted and informed of these job role changes around June 30.

Samsung is one of many companies going through rounds of layoffs recently. Just last week, it was reported that Verizon was set to announce more layoffs. And back on July 7, Microsoft reportedly cut Bethesda’s id Studios its studio in half.
