Samsung has unveiled its 2026 Galaxy Z series, a three-phone foldable lineup that moves away from a one-size-fits-all flagship. Rather than a single device, the company is positioning each model for a different kind of user — describing them, respectively, as phones for the multitasker, the content lover and the moment maximizer.
The lineup arrives after several generations of Samsung foldables, and the company says this year's models represent its most refined range to date. All three run on Qualcomm's Snapdragon® 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy platform and support Samsung's Super Fast Charging 2.0, which requires a separately sold 45W charger.
Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra sits at the top of the range and is aimed at heavy multitaskers. It features an 8-inch main display while measuring just 4.1mm thin when unfolded, and its Side-by-Side Multi Window feature lets users run up to three apps at once. Samsung has also added AI that suggests which app a user might want to open next.
On specs, the Z Fold8 Ultra carries a 5,000mAh battery — which Samsung notes is the same capacity as the one in its Galaxy S26 Ultra. For photography, it pairs a 200MP main camera with a new 50MP Ultra Wide lens that the company says delivers four times the detail of the previous generation.
Galaxy Z Fold8
The standard Galaxy Z Fold8 has been redesigned with a new shape that Samsung says is optimized for consuming content. The phone's 7.6-inch inner display is built for streaming and reading — rotating to portrait mode turns the screen into a full-page e-book layout — while the cover screen uses a ratio Samsung describes as well suited to scrolling social feeds.
The Z Fold8 also carries what Samsung calls the world's lightest fold designation, a claim the company limits to smartphones. Despite the reduced weight, it includes a 4,800mAh battery and a 50MP dual camera system.
Galaxy Z Flip8
The Galaxy Z Flip8 is the compact, clamshell-style member of the lineup, and Samsung is marketing it as the world's lightest and thinnest flip phone — again, a claim limited to smartphones. Its edge-to-edge FlexWindow cover screen has been updated to handle more AI-driven tasks, surfacing items such as calendar alerts, quick replies and app suggestions without the phone being opened.
Opened, the Z Flip8 offers a 50MP main camera and supports FlexMode, which uses the phone's hinge to hold it upright for hands-free shooting at various angles. It also includes Super Steady Video for smoother handheld footage.
What it means
Samsung is betting that foldable buyers now fall into clearly different camps and want a device tuned to a specific priority — screen size and productivity, content and portability, or pocketability and everyday convenience. The Z Fold8 Ultra emphasizes multitasking power, the Z Fold8 emphasizes an immersive content experience in a lightweight body, and the Z Flip8 emphasizes a slim, always-ready design.
