Samsung introduced its AI-powered glasses at the Galaxy Unpacked event held in London today, marking the company’s first foray into wearable eyewear within its Galaxy portfolio. Two frame designs were introduced at the event, one from Gentle Monster and one from Warby Parker, and the most impressive thing about both is that you’d likely mistake them for regular glasses at a glance.
That’s the whole point. Reporters who tried on the frames ahead of the Unpacked event told Gizmodo the glasses were remarkably lightweight, to the point where the internal electronics barely seemed real. At a media roundtable, Samsung EVP and XR R&D head James Choi laid out the weight requirement, explaining that all-day wearability is the fundamental test for smart glasses and that stylish design becomes irrelevant if the frames are heavy enough to be a constant distraction.
The Gentle Monster collaboration favors a sleek, minimal aesthetic – thin arms, a uniform black colorway, and a top edge that runs flat before curving softly toward the bottom of the frame. Warby Parker’s design leans toward a warmer aesthetic – deep brown tones paired with a gentle upward curve along the brow, a silhouette that feels adaptable without appearing to overreach. Samsung collaborated closely with both brands to refine how the frames sit against the forehead and ears – a seemingly minor consideration that becomes significant when the device is meant to be worn for up to nine hours at a stretch.
What the Glasses Actually Do
The feature set is audio-first with a camera bolted on. Like Meta’s Ray-Ban AI glasses, these are built around voice interaction rather than a display – Samsung opted against including any display or heads-up projection capability, meaning users interact with the glasses entirely through voice, touch, and wrist-based gestures tied to a paired Galaxy Watch. The Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 chip handles the processing load within the slim frame, managing power efficiency and heat in a form factor that doesn’t have much room for either.
Google Gemini is the AI engine. According to Samsung, the glasses give wearers access to Gemini for a range of functions, including real-time navigation, on-the-fly language translation, notification summaries, and location-aware recommendations such as coffee shops along a walking route. The built-in camera lets users share a live point-of-view during calls, photograph a whiteboard for automatic note capture, or translate text on a sign or menu in real time.

Battery life lands at nine hours on a single charge, with the charging case carrying enough capacity for seven additional full charges. Samsung didn’t announce pricing or an exact ship date at Unpacked, though a fall launch in select markets is confirmed. A rumored price band of $379 to $499 has been circulating since spring, per VR.org, but Samsung hasn’t put a number on anything officially.
Meta Connect is scheduled for September 23, which gives Samsung a narrow window to move first. Whether the Gentle Monster and Warby Parker partnerships translate into meaningful distribution through those brands’ retail networks – both of which have real storefronts and optical fitting infrastructure – could be the practical USP that a head-to-head spec comparison wouldn’t capture. Won-Joon Choi, Samsung’s MX COO, argues the goal is to make AI assistance feel like a natural part of daily moments rather than something that requires stopping to pull out a phone. The eyewear is the bet that people are ready for that, provided the frames are good enough to wear even when Gemini isn’t doing anything at the time.
