Saints offensive turnaround starting to gain national attention

The New Orleans Saints’ offseason has been highlighted by adding dynamic weapons to Kellen Moore’s offense and giving Tyler Shough the pieces to thrive in 2026. As a result, they were named one of the five most improved offenses in the league by Moe Moton at Bleacher Report. Their well-roundedness plus explosive playmakers make them a dangerous group who could make a run for the playoffs.

“The Saints may field the most evolved offense because of added talent across multiple positions, coupled with Shough's development,” Moton wrote.

The main issue with the Saints’ offense in 2025 was their inconsistency and lack of explosive playmakers. As a result, Moore made a concentrated effort to add weapons at every level of the field. They did so in free agency, signing Travis Etienne Jr. and David Edwards, and in the 2026 NFL Draft, selecting Jordyn Tyson, Bryce Lance, and Oscar Delp (among others). Now, as Moton noted, they are set to breakout and compete for the NFC South.

The Saints’ offense is a well-rounded unit thanks to these aforementioned additions.

The downfall of an offense is when they become one-dimensional. This allowed defenses to key in on their successful aspect and mitigate it. For example, if an offense can’t pass the ball, then a defense will counter by bringing a safety towards the line of scrimmage and focusing on the run. This is a trap that the Saints have fallen into during recent seasons but expect that to change in 2026.

The reason many, including Moton, are projecting the Saints’ offense to take a leap forward is because Moore addressed both the passing and rushing attacks. Etienne and Alvin Kamara, plus the improved offensive line, make the ground game dangerous while Tyler Shough’s improved arsenal of receivers, plus the additions in the trenches, create a dynamic passing system.

Because of this, the Saints will have a balanced offense and won’t allow defenses to lock in on one aspect. This gives Kellen Moore creativity in his game plan and will create an efficient but explosive unit. It will undoubtedly be an improved group from 2025 and could be the difference between making and missing the playoffs.
