On September 12 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV, Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn headlines a Zuffa Boxing fight card, in association with Golden Boy Promotions. Fight fans in the United Kingdom and Ireland will be able to catch the action live on DAZN. The rest of the world will be able to do so with Paramount+. Garcia will be defending his WBC welterweight title that he won against Mario Barrios.
Ahead of this huge showdown, Garcia spoke to Ariel Helwani, where he responded to Oscar De La Hoya’s criticism of the Benn fight.

“This is such a great fight,” said promoter Dana White in the press release. “Conor Benn has won 26 of his 27 professional fights [sic] and is coming off a big win in the U.K. earlier this year. Ryan Garcia is one of the biggest stars in boxing and a world champion. These guys are in their prime, and it’s a fight they’ve both wanted for a long time. They’ll come face-to-face for the first time today before stepping into the ring on September 12 during Mexican Independence Day weekend at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The energy in that place will be incredible.”
Oscar De La Hoya questions size of Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn
“People are posting about the Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn fight in Las Vegas, September 12,” De La Hoya said during an Instagram video address. “But I have yet to be approached about making this fight.”
Garcia vs Benn will be the American’s second fight of a two-fight agreement with Turki Alalshikh and Sela, but he still has obligations to DAZN and Golden Boy.
“Apparently, the Saudis have chosen Conor Benn to be Ryan’s next opponent,” the promoter said. “Nobody’s asking for this fight. The fans are definitely not wanting this fight.”
“If it were up to me, I would have picked Devin Haney for the rematch [with Garcia]. That’s a much bigger fight. But because Turki owns Zuffa, and wants to help them out, he picked Conor Benn. Whatever, that’s fine, but you can’t just make fights without Golden Boy and DAZN.
“There are contracts in place. You can’t just do whatever you want here in America. There are laws and legally binding contracts,” De La Hoya said.
Ryan Garcia fires back at Oscar De La Hoya
Reflecting on De La Hoya’s comments when speaking to Ariel Helwani, Garcia said:
“I don’t understand why Oscar De La Hoya would have to go on Instagram and say nobody wants to watch this fight. What’s the point of that?
“I’m your fighter. You shouldn’t say things like that. To try to bash me and bring me down, that’s only going to make me rise higher.
“I don’t understand what your problem is, bro. I’m going to let peace be peace and keep moving forward.”
