Ryan Clark has gotten a lot of flak over the last decade-plus for calling Aaron Rodgers the all-time best thrower of the football. For Pittsburgh Steelers fans, that argument hits differently after watching Rodgers spend a season with the Black & Gold.
Clark revisited his quarterback debate on X the same morning ESPN fired him. The safety shared a segment from “The Pivot” podcast and thanked Tom Brady for backing the opinion Clark has defended, that Rodgers is the most gifted passer of his generation.
Brady supplied the assist during an appearance on the June 22 “Stick to Football” podcast. The Super Bowl champion described Rodgers as unmatched when it comes to passing the football, giving Clark heavyweight validation.
Rodgers’ résumé gives both men plenty to work with. He has thrown for 66,274 yards and 527 touchdowns against 123 interceptions over his career. His season highs include 4,643 yards and a 122.5 passer rating in 2011, and 48 touchdown passes and a 70.7 percent completion rate in 2020.
Steelers fans got a look in 2025, when Rodgers passed for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions while helping Pittsburgh win the AFC North. Of course, the arm wasn’t operating at peak Green Bay performance, but his touch, release and ball placement were something to see.
Clark has more standing in this discussion than your average hot-take media personality. He spent 13 NFL seasons studying quarterbacks from the back end and saw Rodgers throw three touchdowns against Pittsburgh in Super Bowl 45.
