Rosie O’Donnell Opens Up About Her 60-Lb Weight Loss For New Cover Story Interview
The former talk show host has been in the headlines a lot recently, making waves with her latest life updates since leaving the United States for Ireland and switching up her entire routine.
She sat down with People Magazine as their latest cover star, giving an in-depth, vulnerable interview, talking all about the major changes she made over the last year. Rosie moved to Ireland in January 2025, openly admitting that the re-election of Donald Trump was very influential in that decision, telling CNN that it was the “best decision” for herself and her youngest daughter, and that she’d consider moving back to America only when “it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights.”
After sharing updates with fans on social media, she’s really opening up about how moving has changed her life, and how it also inspired her to improve her health and lose an impressive 60 lbs.
“I’ve had trouble with my weight my whole life,” she told People. “I know the shame and humiliation dealt to people who are overweight. My kids would come home from trick-or-treating with pillowcases full of candy and hide it. Smart children. I’d wake up at 3 in the morning and go, ‘There’s a Nestlé Crunch bar somewhere.’ I couldn’t help myself.”
Rosie Says Mounjaro 'Changed Her Life' During Cover Interview
The comedian and actress has been quite transparent about what's helped her lose weight over the last three years, telling her social media followers that she had been prescribed Mounjaro and that it was certainly working, even posting before-and-after photos of herself.
Now, she's opening up even more, telling the publication, "Mounjaro changed my life."
"The doctor said, 'Could you take a shot?'" she recalled in a video interview. "And I was like, 'I guess so, I don't know. Is it insulin?' He's like, 'No, it's this thing called Mounjaro.' I couldn't even pronounce it at first. I started three years ago when I was diagnosed with [type 2] diabetes...So I started taking it, and I was stunned at how it quieted the food noise."
Rosie also explained how she didn't necessarily take the drug as most doctors may suggest, altering her dosage so she could lose the weight "very, very slowly." She took the first dose for an entire year, then bumped up to the next dose annually for the following two years, helping her steadily lose one to two pounds a month for three years.
"I have had no side effects," she added. "I really wish that I could do commercials for Mounjaro, and they would drop the price instead of paying me. That's what I think because when I see people struggling with obesity, I want to stop and go, 'I know what it feels like, and I know the shame that we carry and the humiliation that is dealt to people who are overweight in our country and in our culture.' And I want to take it away like it took mine away."
