Roger Goodell has been the NFL Commissioner since September 1, 2006, when he took over for Paul Tagliabue.
And, it seems Goodell will stick around for a little while longer. His contract will end in March 2027, but NFL owners are expected to vote on a new deal, according to Mark Maske of Front Office Sports.
“The NFL’s team owners have not yet completed a contract extension with commissioner Roger Goodell. But they expect to finalize an extension with him in the coming months to keep him in place to oversee the negotiations for new broadcasting deals and a collective bargaining agreement with players that could include an 18-game season,” Maske wrote.
Goodell and the NFL are reportedly eyeing an 18-game schedule in the near future, which comes after the league switched to a 17-game schedule in 2021.
Last June, NFL media chief Brian Rolapp, who has widely been predicted to be the successor to Goodell as the NFL Commissioner, left to become the CEO of the PGA Tour.
Goodell, who turns 68 years old in February, worked out a three-year extension in October 2023, and October 2026 could be a month when the owners iron out a new deal for the NFL Commissioner.
Front Office Sports added that there doesn’t seem to be any pushback regarding Roger Goodell for the time being, which bodes well for his hopes of landing another contract with the NFL.
